Museums Announce “Herencia Latina” Programs
The Springfield Museums, the Pioneer Valley History Network (PVHN) and partner organizations announce Herencia Latina 2015-16, a nine-month Pioneer-Valley-wide exploration of Latino history and culture in the Pioneer Valley and beyond, from September, 2015 to May, 2016. The series will be formally launched on Wednesday, September 16, 2015, 6 pm, at Forbes Library in Northampton.
Museums To Purchase Childhood Home of Dr. Seuss
The Springfield Museums are in the final stages of purchasing the childhood home of Theodor Geisel (a.k.a. Dr. Seuss), located at 74 Fairfield Street in Springfield, MA, through support provided by the Dr. Seuss Foundation.

Museums to Host Annual Car Show
Each fall, the Springfield Museums pay tribute to Springfield’s role in transportation history at the annual “History on the Move” Car Show. The twelfth annual event will take place on Saturday, September 12, from 9 am to 3 pm on the Quadrangle green. A wide assortment of vintage early automobiles will be displayed, including many pre-1950 cars and an assortment of vintage automobiles manufactured in Springfield. The event is sponsored by AAA Pioneer Valley; MassMutual is the 2015 Premier Sponsor of the Springfield Museums.
Jurassic Road Show to Visit Museums
On August 22 from 10 am–5 pm, the Springfield Museums will host the Jurassic Roadshow, which brings the science, history, and art of the Connecticut River Valley’s dinosaur footprints and trace impressions to street fairs and other events in the region. The Roadshow’s appearance will also help to highlight the unique collections of dinosaur fossils housed in Dinosaur Hall at the Springfield Science Museum.

Springfield Museums to Host Major Exhibit of American Impressionist Works
Impressionism, the radical style that dominated the French art world in the late 19th century, took root in America thanks in large part to the emergence of the art colony movement. Excellent examples from artist colonies like Cos Cob, Connecticut, Shinnecock, Long Island, New York, Taos, New Mexico and Provincetown, Massachusetts will be on display in a comprehensive new exhibit at the Springfield Museums beginning next month. American Impressionism: The Lure of the Artists’ Colony will be on view at the Michele and Donald D’Amour Museum of Fine Arts from July 14 through October 25. The exhibit is organized by the Reading Public Museum, Reading, Pennsylvania.
Museums Announce Hours, Military Discounts for Summer
This summer, visitors to the Springfield Museums will be able to enjoy the Quadrangle seven days a week. From June 29 through August 31, all four Springfield Museums will be open Monday-Saturday, 10 am-5 pm, and Sunday 11 am-5 pm. The Blake House Café will be open Monday-Saturday, 9 am– 3 pm and Sunday 11 am– 3 pm. The Museums will be closed on July 4.
