The Springfield Science Museum's large rooftop telescope will be open for public sky-gazing on Friday, Oct. 3, at 7:30 p.m.
A selection of twenty 19th- and 20th-century color woodblock prints from the permanent collection of the Michele and Donald D'Amour Museum of Fine Arts will be on view from September 9, 2008, through March 8, 2009.
The Springfield Museums will pay tribute to Springfield's role in transportation history with the Springfield's World of Wheels car and motorcycle show on Saturday, September 27, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., on the museum grounds at the Quadrangle. Automobiles from every decade since 1893 will be exhibited along with vintage motorcycles.
The Springfield Museums will hold an Open House for principals, teachers and PTO leaders from Pre-K through 12th grade schools on Wednesday, October 1, from 3:30-6:30 p.m. The event will help school educators learn about the Museums and how a field trip can supplement classroom study. Admission is free with a school ID. Teachers may bring one guest free of charge. Refreshments will be served. Advance registration is required.
Space is still available in "Art and History in Our Nation's Capital," a museum-sponsored trip to Washington, D.C., scheduled for Oct. 2-5, 2008.
Architect Stephen Jablonski will conduct a walking tour around the Quadrangle-Mattoon Street neighborhood on Saturday, September 13, from 10:30 a.m.-noon.
Mrs. Allyson Gouzounis has been selected to receive the 17th annual Ubora Award from the African Hall Subcommittee of the Springfield Museums. The award will be presented at a ceremony on Saturday, September 20, at 7 p.m. at the Michele and Donald D'Amour Museum of Fine Arts. The presentation will be followed by a reception at the Springfield Science Museum across the Quadrangle.
The Springfield Museums at the Quadrangle will host "LittleFest of Storytelling IV" on Saturday, September 13, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The event is free for Springfield residents. Activities planned for outdoors will be held inside if it rains.
The Board of Trustees of the Springfield Museums have voted to proceed with the construction of Phase II of the new Museum of Springfield History.
