Museum will have you wanting the car keys
SPRINGFIELD - Habit makes it easy to misread the decimal point on a colorful “Mobilgas ethyl’’ pump in the Museum of Springfield History. Look closely: It advertises fuel not at $1.59 a gallon but at 15.9 cents. That was a good thing, considering that the 1911 seven-passenger Stevens-Duryea luxury touring car displayed around the corner got only seven miles a gallon.
Springfield museum celebrates civil rights
Monday is the start of Black History Month. On Sunday the Museum of Springfield History unveiled an exhibit tracing the civil rights movement in the city during the 1960s.

February 2010 Museums à la Carte Programs
The Springfield Museums at the Quadrangle will present the following Museums à la Carte programs in February. The programs are held on Thursdays at 12:15 p.m. in the Michele and Donald D’Amour Museum of Fine Arts.
Nominees Being Sought for 2010 Ahadi and Ubora Awards
The African Hall Subcommittee of the Springfield Museums is seeking nominations for the 2nd annual Ahadi Youth Award and 19th annual Ubora Award. Nominations for both awards must be received by March 31, 2010.
Stars Over Springfield at the Springfield Science Museum
The Springfield Science Museum's large rooftop telescope will be open for public sky-gazing on Friday, Feb. 5, at 7:30 p.m. The program will be held rain or shine. If it is overcast, a planetarium show will be presented in place of telescope viewing.
Paintings by Connecticut Artist Reflect Feminine Nature
Paintings by Connecticut artist Daryl Zang will be on exhibit in the Community Gallery at the Michele and Donald D’Amour Museum of Fine Arts from January 19 through April 4, 2010. There will be a reception with the artist on April 1 from 5-7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
Participants in Springfield’s Civil Rights Movement Tell their Stories in Black History Month Exhibit
In honor of Black History Month, the new Museum of Springfield History will host Freedom through Their Eyes: Fifty Years of Civil Rights Perspectives in Springfield, an exhibition conceived and created by ninety 11th-grade students from the class of 2011 at the Springfield Renaissance School. The exhibit will be on view at the museum from February 2-28, 2010.
Visit a Black Hole at Science Museum Exhibit
Black Holes: Space Warps & Time Twists, an interactive exhibit on view at the Springfield Science Museum from January 30 through May 2, will reveal what we know, don’t know, and think we know about one of the great mysteries of the universe.
Ignore the Cold and Pretend You’re in Hawaii
Wear your favorite Hawaiian shirt and join the fun at the “Aloha Hula” family program at the Springfield Museums on Monday, January 18. Activities will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and are free with museum admission unless noted. The first 300 visitors will receive a free lei.
Museums Receive Grant from the Massachusetts Cultural Council
The Springfield Museums have been awarded a $28,300 Organizational Support grant for fiscal year 2010 from the Massachusetts Cultural Council (MCC), a state agency.
Grant Supports Museum Programs
The Springfield Museums have a received a $15,000 grant from the Bank of America Charitable Foundation to support Family Science Adventures and Art Discovery Center Programs at the Springfield Museums.
