2008 Dr. Seuss Birthday Bash
The Springfield Museums' Weekend Family Fun series will continue on Saturday, March 1, with a birthday bash for Dr. Seuss. Theodor Seuss Geisel was born in Springfield on March 2, 1904.
March 2007 Museums à la Carte
The Springfield Museums at the Quadrangle will present the following Museums à la Carte programs in March. The programs are held on Thursdays at 12:15 p.m. in the Museum of Fine Arts.
March 2008 Stars Over Springfield
The Springfield Science Museum's large rooftop telescope will be open for public sky-gazing on Friday, March 7, at 7:30 p.m.
Blues in Our Blood Exhibition
The lives of two famous members of an African-American family in Springfield will be explored in the special exhibition Blues in Our Blood: The Artistic Evolution of Taj Mahal and Carole Fredericks, on view at the Connecticut Valley Historical Museum from February 15 through November 9, 2008.
Drum-Making Workshop
Space is still available in a one-day Native American drum-making workshop scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 9, from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the George Walter Vincent Smith Art Museum on the Quadrangle.
Lunar Eclipse Party
The Springfield Museums' Family Fun series will continue with "Night of the Disappearing Moon," a special evening program on Wednesday, Feb. 20, from 6 to 11 p.m. at the Springfield Science Museum. The event has been scheduled in conjunction with a total lunar eclipse and will be held rain or shine.
School Vacation Week Programs
The Springfield Museums have planned a week of prehistoric fun during February school vacation. "Dynamic Dinosaurs" activities will be offered from February 18 through 22 and are free with museum admission unless noted.
2008 Ubora Award Nominations
The African Hall Subcommittee of the Springfield Museums is seeking nominations for the 17th annual Ubora Award. The award is presented to an African-American individual who has demonstrated a commitment to the Springfield community and exhibited excellence in the fields of community service, science, education, humanities or the arts. Nominations must be received by March 31, 2008.
Dinosaur Weekend Family Fun
The Springfield Museums' Weekend Family Fun series will continue on Saturday, February 9, from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. with "Discovering Dinosaurs." Activities are free with the price of museum admission unless noted.
PT Boat Exhibit Extended
The special exhibition The Mosquito Fleet: World War II PT Boats, on view at the Connecticut Valley Historical Museum, has been extended through June 29. (The original closing date was Feb. 24.)
Abstract Paintings
The exhibit Abstract Paintings by Douglas Deihl is on view through April 13 in the Community Gallery at the Springfield Museum of Fine Arts.
Dinosaurs are Back! – 2008
Giant moving, roaring dinosaurs are invading the Science Museum from Feb. 9 through May 11, 2008, in the exhibition Dinosaurs! Land, Sea and Air.
